Ernie's Bath Book
Published in Paperback by Random House (Merchandising) (September, 1982)
Average review score:

Ernie at his bubbly best! This little book was bought as a "box filler" for our amazon package ordered for "downunder." Turned out to be the biggest hit for our 2 year old daughter. Already a fan of Ernie's, this spongy plastic book 's appeal is not just limited to bathtime! We particularly like Ernie going to sleep at the end (good coercion) and finding Bert and other Sesame Street favorites in his room. Only complaint: the book doesn't contain the first verse of "Rubber Ducky" which I have to improvise because it's in hot demand. Otherwise - bright, clear, simple and effective.

The Gardener's Guide to Growing Hardy Geraniums
Published in Hardcover by Timber Pr (June, 1994)
Average review score:

a winnerA good read from beginning to end. I am fond of geraniums, but had no idea of the scope of the genus. The book helped me straighten out some of my mislabled orphans. Only a couple of problems - I wish it had far more photos of the leaves and flowers to help in identification, and the encyclopedia has no zone information for those of us in the US.

Good Gifts from the Home: Candles, Bubble Baths, and Other Romantic Gifts--Make Beautiful Gifts to Give (or Keep)

Small Book but Some Good ReceipesI have been trying to order this book for a while but each time something went wrong. I am happy to say I finally received the book and in record time from one of the best sellers at Market Place. I was surprised how small the book was with little or no photos showing the project or even the step by step guides. Granted the receipes are simple and easy to follow written guidelines I just feel cheated if there is no pictures. Overall I am going to rate the book a 4 because of the simplistic nature of the receipes I am excited to start trying them. I sell soaps on the side (when I am not book selling) and I find some of the best receipes are 3-5 ingrediants and takes 5 minutes to prepare. The hardcover is nice and tight the book itself is small but text size is normal.I did not realize that a big portion of the book (half) would be on candlemaking. While interesting it is not what I needed. There is approx. 33 soap/bath beauty receipes of which I will use about 75-80% of so I do like the book. I would of given 5 stars but they lost one star because of the lack of Pictures. (Dj has a nice one. I recommend you cannot go wrong-Too simple for the professional soaper, I am just thrilled it doesn't call for all the complicated ones I have to do. As a Gift I would Highly Recommend.

The Struggle for Power in Syria: Politics and Society Under Asad and the Ba'th Party
Published in Paperback by I B Tauris & Co Ltd (June, 1996)
Average review score:

A well-balanced overview of a complex political situationThe author gives a brief but well-balanced account of the rise of the Alawites in Syrian politics. It focuses on the continuous discussion of sectarian interests this involves both in their own ranks and among their opponents. I understood many aspects of recent Middle-East history much better than after reading only such general overviews as Mansfield's.
The style of the book does not contribute to the pleasure of reading it. There are many small signs of it being translated from Dutch. To my taste, the text is somewhat overloaded with names, which might appeal more to specialists than to general readers.

Time to Get Out of Bath
Published in Paperback by Random House of Canada Ltd. (March, 1994)
Average review score:

On the Universal Nature of Baths and ChildrenChildren and baths are like children and bed: hard to get `em in, and even harder to get `em out. My usual refrain is to come out before they turn into raisins, because they`re too small for prunes. Of course they identify with Shirley. When her mother tells her it`s time to come out it inspires her fantastic journey through the plumbing (we spend the longest time over that illustration,) and her aquatic adventures. No great revelations here, but the idea and whimsical illustrations never fail to captivate my dirty little monkeys of five and seven years of age.

Wash, Scrub, Brush
Published in Hardcover by Albert Whitman & Co (April, 2001)
Average review score:

Wash, scrub, brush!A good introduction to hygiene (including some of the "why bothers"). There is a small glossary at the back of the book defining terms such as germs, bacteria, earwax... I was hoping, however, for a simpler text for my toddler. Perhaps I am underestimating my daughter, but I am guessing that the word disease is not in her vocabulary yet! So, I will add my own comments. When a "sidebar" says "There are more harmful germs and bacteria under your fingernails than on a toilet seat!" I will simply add "Germs make you sick!" or some such sentence. All in all, a good basic introduction to hygiene.
